Ms. Mabarak is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She has been practicing in the mental health field for over 10 years, and is trained in evidenced-based interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI).

Ms. Mabarak has experience working across the spectrum of the criminal justice system: she has provided mental health services for juveniles and adults on parole and probation, provided trauma treatment to victims and survivors of crime, and has worked as part of a multidisciplinary team in the investigation of sexual assault and child abuse.  Ms. Mabarak has practiced as a mental health provider, a forensic interviewer, and specializes in the areas of abuse, trauma, and interpersonal violence. As a forensic interviewer, Ms. Mabarak conducted over two thousand interviews addressing allegations of abuse and violence, and has specific training in interviewing individuals with disabilities as well as addressing issues of commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Ms. Mabarak has presented in conferences and training series about topics related to the impact of trauma, forensic interviewing, abuse dynamics and recantations.

At Empire State Forensics, Ms. Mabarak co-leads specialized groups and provides individual therapy for individuals who have sexually offended, and conducts evaluations for the Department of Social Services. Ms. Mabarak holds a special interest in group dynamics and group therapy, its impact on the reduction of risk factors, and ways in which it can promote the engagement in pro-social activities and behaviors through the experience of connectedness.
