Charity Wijetunga is a consultant evaluator at Empire State Forensics. She is responsible for conducting psychological/risk evaluations for individuals charged with or convicted of sexual offenses. Ms. Wijetunga received her juris doctor from Fordham University School of Law and worked as a court attorney, drafting opinions for judges in a broad range of civil matters, including matrimonial/child custody cases. Thereafter, she transitioned to a career in clinical forensic psychology, receiving a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Fordham University.
Ms. Wijetunga is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a concentration in forensics at Fordham University. Her clinical and research interests include personality and violence risk assessment and the assessment and treatment of adolescents and adults with a history of sexual offenses, individuals with psychopathy, and individuals with intellectual disabilities in the criminal justice system. She has authored peer-reviewed articles and book chapters regarding juvenile sex offenders, psychopathy, violence risk assessment, and community management of sex offenders. Ms. Wijetunga has psychotherapy and assessment experience with individuals across the lifespan in community, civil psychiatric, and forensic psychiatric/correctional settings, including Bellevue Hospital Center, Elmhurst Hospital Center, and Rikers Island. She is a member of the American Psychology-Law Society, the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services, and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.
